Can Tiz The Law Win The 2020 Kentucky Derby?
The Kentucky Derby is one of the most famous horse racing shows in the United States, where fans can see the best horses on earth. The Derby is also part of the prestigious series of races in the U.S. Triple Crown. This year, the race will commence on September 5, 2020, becoming the second division of the said series, after the Belmont Stakes took the opening last June.
With many surprises that came along the Triple Crown show, one horse had risen on top, displaying an incredible performance in the race. Barclay Tagg’s Tiz the Law pulled away from the Belmont Stakes successfully and is now determined to dazzle in the Kentucky Derby. For a colt to win the prestigious Triple Crown title, it must be able to win the three titles of the series.
With Tiz The Law earning the Belmont Stakes effortlessly, he took all sportsbooks odds, becoming the favorite horse to win the Kentucky Derby. However, can this horse continue a winning streak in the Run For The Roses and be able to claim the Triple Crown this year? Let’s take a closer look at this colt and his edge against the other horses on the field.
Most Number Of Derby-Prep Successful Finishes
The main requirement for a colt to get a berth in the Kentucky Derby is to earn qualifying points. These points are gained by entering Derby-prep races that settle before the main event. Most of these are stakes races done at different Grade levels. Once a horse wins, he gets the point, depending on how he finished the track.
Tiz The Law is one of the thoroughbred horses that competed in some notable Derby-prep races after winning the Maiden Special Weight. He was a superstar at the Florida Derby and Holy Bull Stakes. Aside from that, he also took home the Champagne Stakes title and was a third-place finisher in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes.
A Heavy Favorite Since Then
When the Sackatoga Stable decided to send Tiz The Law to bid for the Triple Crown race, he was a heavy favorite right away. During the first quarter of this year, a lot of horse racing platforms have begun showing odds prediction, with this colt impressively rising to the top rank.
It’s no surprise to many, however, since the Sackatoga Stable is known to produce exemplary finishers. Their last close win was in 2000, with the Funny Cide winning second place in the Triple Crown race.
As the Triple Crown progressed, Tiz The Law, even before the Belmont Stakes, was a heavy favorite. During the Belmont Stakes, he even got 4-5 favorite odds values, to the delight of his bettors. As he contends in the upcoming Kentucky Derby, he still has the favorites odds value to win in the first place.
Undeniable Stakes Races Experience
Stakes races mostly occur in the dirt track with a longer running distance. That said, Tiz The Law is one of the Triple Crown contenders that has the most number of stakes racing experiences since birth.
In the upcoming Derby, he might face his two toughest contenders yet: Honor A.P. (Santa Anita Derby winner) and Authentic (Bob Baffert’s highly trained colt). Although he’s jousting with two strong racehorses, Tis the Law might pull off the Derby as he knows how to connect well with his jockey and display the right pacing inside the field.
Excellent Speed Variation
The Kentucky Derby- and all Triple Crown races, for that matter- is a race that determines the fastest running horse. However, a horse with an incredible speed variation can possess the right pacing and timing, which can help him hustle correctly to reach the finish line first. Tiz The Law won the Belmont Stakes because of the different speeds he portrays.
He did the same thing during the Florida Derby. He turns on the engine right away at the start of the show, slows down in the middle, and blows away when nearing the end. This strategy leaves the other racehorses behind, which allowed him to win the Belmont Stakes. In the upcoming Derby, Tiz The Law might showcase the same style. However, with the Kentucky Derby having a shorter running distance, there’s a chance his team might try another strategy.
Dedicated Trainer And Jockey
Tiz The Law is trained by Barclay Tagg, who is a multi-graded stakes achiever. This year, he has completed 33 racing games, wherein seven of these are in first place finishes, respectively.
Aside from that, Tiz The Law is ridden by a pro jockey, Manuel Franco. He was a Breeder’s Cup hero last year who produced 71 first-place finishers since January of this year.
As Tiz The Law clinches the heavy favorites in the upcoming Kentucky Derby, he is more determined to win the title and take a step closer to the Triple Crown. After knowing the dominant traits that will help him win the upcoming Kentucky Derby, does this horse deserve the title? All we can do is wait and see.
