Euro 2020 Qualifiers Preview
We take a look at some of the games happening this week and over the weekend as the race to Euro 2020 gets underway again. Odds are from bet365 but check with them for the latest prices as they can change.
Denmark v Switzerland
Denmark are yet to lose a Euro 2020 qualifier and are currently second in their league, one point behind leaders Ireland. Denmark picked up impressive wins against Georgia and Gibraltar, scoring 11 goals in the process, but were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw away to Georgia in their last fixture
Switzerland are also unbeaten having drawn two and won two of their opening four qualifiers, including a 4-0 win against Gibraltar in their last fixture.
Both teams have a full squad available to choose from for this fixture with no fresh injuries or suspensions.
The last time these two met there were six goals as the match ended in a 3-3 draw. This fixture will be a tightly contested match with both teams looking to gain ground on leaders Ireland and to put themselves into a strong position to push for a second-place automatic qualification place so a draw may be the most likely outcome again.
Denmark – 5/4
Draw – 11/5
Switzerland – 23/10
Italy v Greece
Italy are in incredible form and have won all of their Euro qualifiers so far picking up 18 points from their first six fixtures placing them top of Group J. They have only conceded three goals and scored 18.
Greece have struggled in Group J and are second from bottom with just one win from six games so far. They drew 1-1 with Liechtenstein in their last fixture, but lost their previous four before this, conceding seven and scoring just 2 in this run of games.
Italy will be without left back Emerson Palmieri for this round of fixtures as the defender remains out with a thigh injury while Greece have a full squad to choose from.
Italy will be sure favourites to win this fixture and continue their 100% record in the group and have been a constant threat in a group they have been expected to win. Greece will struggle and Italy could win by a large margin.
Italy – 2/11
Draw – 5/1
Greece – 18/1
Wales v Slovakia
Wales have made an indifferent start to their qualification campaign. They beat Azerbaijan in their last fixture in September, but lost their games to Hungary and Croatia before this leaving them second from bottom in Group E, but with a game in hand.
Slovakia have also struggled to put a good run of fixtures together having won three and lost two in their first five matches. They earned good victories away to Hungary and Azerbaijan and have scored nine goals, including five against Azerbaijan in one match.
Wales will be without Bournemouth Chris Mepham who was injured last week while Slovakia have a fully fit squad with no suspensions.
Wales will be desperate for a win to make up for the three-point gap between them, Hungary and Slovakia but Slovakia will be looking to put a run of good results together to make up ground on group leaders Croatia, who they are just one point behind. Wales are good at home and this will be a tight game, but Wales may just edge it to keep in touching distance of the teams around them.
Wales – 31/20
Draw – 11/5
Croatia – 21/10
Norway v Spain
Norway’s only loss in their Group F fixtures came against Spain in the opening round of fixtures where they lost 2-1. Since then, they are yet to suffer a loss in the group and are five games unbeaten, have scored seven and kept two clean sheets on this run.
Spain are in fantastic form and sit at the top of the group after winning their first six matches with a goal difference of 14 and look favourites to finish the qualifiers top of Group F.
Spain only have one player out, suspended left back Juan Bernat Velasco won’t feature while Norway have no fresh injuries or suspensions.
Norway are impressive at home; they haven’t lost in 13 home matches in all competitions and have scored in every game during this run. Spain have been free scoring and cruising the group, but Norway will probably give them the toughest fixture at home in this group so there could be a surprise stalemate draw here.
Draw – 10/3
Spain – 9/20
