21-22 Premier League Preview Week 37

Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace

Man City are on course to secure another Premier League title this season. The Citizens took advantage when Liverpool dropped points last weekend and Pep Guardiola’s side have a three-point gap at the top of the table. But there is still plenty for City to do with two games remaining.

Chelsea are on course for Champions League football next season after a mid-week win over Leeds. West Ham and Man United are in pole position to secure Europa and Conference League football. In the relegation scrap, Watford will join Norwich in the Championship next season. Leeds are also in the bottom three, but level on points with Burnley above them. Even at this late stage of the campaign, there is lots at stake for many teams in the top flight. Some big games also take place this weekend, which could impact any late position changes in the Premier League.

Leeds vs Brighton

Leeds lost their third match on the spin following a 3-0 home loss against Chelsea on Wednesday. Dan James was sent off early on and Chelsea went on to dominate the match. Jesse Marsch’s side previously lost 2-1 at Arsenal and 4-0 at home against Man City. The Whites now have just one point from their last 12 available, form which has seen them plummet into the bottom three.

Brighton has given themselves a chance of securing a top-half finish following a three-match unbeaten run in the Premier League. Last time out, the Seagulls thrashed Man United 4-0 at home to follow up a 3-0 win at Wolves and a 2-2 draw at Southampton. Graham Potter’s side has won four of their last seven and lost just once during this run. The South Coast side has also impressed away, winning three of their last four on the road, including wins at Arsenal (2-1) and Tottenham (1-0).

Raphinha should be fit to face Brighton and Patrick Bamford could also return to the squad. But Tyler Roberts (thigh), Adam Forshaw (knee), Stuart Dallas (thigh) and Jack Harrison (knock) are ruled out. Luke Ayling and Dan James are suspended. For Brighton, Jeremy Sarmiento is doubtful and Jakub Moder (knee) and Enock Mwepu (groin) are out.

Leeds has a lot of key players out and they are struggling to find any rhythm. Brighton are on the up and the Seagulls should strengthen their top half chances with a win.

Leeds – 6/4

Brighton – 7/4

West Ham vs Man City

West Ham ended their four-match losing streak in all competitions with a 4-0 win at Norwich last time out. The victory also capped the Hammers’ first Premier League win in four after defeats against Brentford (2-0), Arsenal (2-1), Chelsea (1-0) and a draw with Burnley (1-1). At the London Stadium, David Moyes’ side are winless in four in all competitions, drawing two and losing two.

Man City produced an emphatic performance to beat Wolves 5-1 away last time out. Kevin De Bruyne scored four and Raheem Sterling added another late on. It was another big win for the Citizens, who have won five in a row in the Premier League, scoring 22 and conceding once during this run. Pep Guardiol’s side also has the best away record in the league, winning 14 of their 18 games on the road this season.

West Ham duo Michail Antonio and Craig Dawson are back in contention, while Angelo Ogbonna (knee) and Said Benrahma (ankle) are out. City pair Fernandinho and Aymeric Laporte remain doubtful. Defenders John Stones (thigh), Kyle Walker (ankle) and Ruben Dias (thigh) are out.

Despite their impressive win last time out, West Ham are struggling to capture any late-season momentum. Man City are flying and they can take advantage with a win in East London.

West Ham – 15/2

Man City – 4/11

Draw – 4/1

Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace

Aston Villa were unable to build on their three-match unbeaten run in the Premier League as they fell to a 2-1 home defeat to Liverpool on Monday. The Villans previously beat Burnley (3-1) and Norwich (2-0) in back-to-back wins. The inconsistent form has held back Steven Gerrard’s side in their push for a top-half finish. At home, in particular, Villa has struggled and they are winless in seven of their last nine.

Crystal Palace secured consecutive Premier League victories for the first time since early November with a 1-0 home win over Watford on Saturday. Palace are now unbeaten in their last three after beating Southampton away (2-1) and drawing with Leeds at home (0-0). Away from home, Patrick Viera’s side has been hard to beat lately. The South London club are unbeaten in seven of their last nine in all competitions, winning four and drawing three.

Villa’s Jacob Ramsey, Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey should be in contention, but Kortney Hause is out with a chest injury. Palace defender Marc Guhei should return and Vincente Guaita is doubtful. Nathan Ferguson is out with a thigh injury.

Villa has shown some improvements recently and Palace are strong away. A draw is expected between the mid-table sides.

Aston Villa – 11/10

Crystal Palace – 5/2

Draw – 17/4

Everton vs Brentford

Everton has boosted their survival chances in recent weeks with a three-match unbeaten run. The Toffees were held to a 0-0 draw at Watford last time out, a result that followed consecutive wins over Leicester (2-1) and Chelsea (1-0). Home form has also been key to Everton’s turnaround in fortunes. The Merseysiders have won three of their last four at Goodison Park (all 1-0).

Brentford bounced back from a 3-0 loss at Man United with a 3-0 home win over Southampton last time out. It was the Bees’ fourth win in six matches in the Premier League, form which has moved Thomas Frank’s side clear of relegation trouble. On the road, Brentford has been solid, winning three of their last five. But, their long-term form is troubling away as they have lost seven of their last ten Premier League fixtures.

Donny van de Beek and Ben Godfrey remain doubtful for Everton. Yerry Mina (calf), Nathan Patterson (ankle), Fabian Delph (knock) and Andros Townsend (knee) are unavailable. Brentford trio Ethan Pinnock, Sergi Canos and Saman Ghoddos are set to return for Brentford. Frank Onyeka (ankle) and Mathias Jorgensen (groin) are ruled out.

Everton has been solid in recent matches and given little away. Brentford are on a decent run and a score draw could unfold at Goodison Park.

Everton – 19/20

Brentford – 14/5

Draw – 13/5
