21-22 Premier League Preview Week 33
Fresh off the back of a breath-taking weekend of Premier League action last weekend, more enticing fixtures are on the horizon in the next gameweek. Title chasers Man City and Liverpool are not in action as their attentions turn to the FA Cup.
Chelsea and Crystal Palace will also not feature in this game week due to their cup commitments. Nonetheless, there is still plenty to keep fans engaged in the fixture list. All eyes will be on the race for the European places and the relegation battle. Tottenham host Brighton as Spurs hope to extend their good run of form and boost their top-four hopes. Arsenal takes on a struggling Southampton as the Gunners look to rejuvenate their push for Champions League football next season.
Out of form, Man United are running out of time to break into the top four and they face a Norwich side looking to battle fiercely against relegation. There is plenty to keep an eye on this weekend across the Premier League table.

Tottenham vs Brighton
Tottenham thrashed Aston Villa 4-0 away on Saturday to extend their winning run in the Premier League top four. The impressive recent form has helped Spurs launch into the top four and create a three-point cushion over the chasing pack. Recent home form has also improved Spurs’ chances of a top-four finish. Antonio Conte’s side has won their last three at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Also, the North Londoners have recorded some big recent results on home turf. They have beaten Everton (5-0), West Ham (3-1) and Newcastle (3-1).
Brighton head back to North London this weekend fresh off the back of a 2-1 win over Arsenal at the Emirates last time out. The victory ended a seven-match winless run and Graham Potter’s side are unbeaten in their last two since the international break. Despite the recent dip in form, the Seagulls have been hard to beat on the road this season. In their 15 away matches, Brighton are unbeaten in 12, but they have lost two of their last three.
Spurs trio Oliver Skipp (groin), Matt Doherty (knee) and Japhet Tanganga (knee) are ruled out. Jakub Moder is Brighton’s only absentee this weekend with a knee injury.
Spurs are too strong on current form and they will pose a tough test for a patchy Brighton side.
Southampton vs Arsenal
Southampton’s poor run of form continued as they were thrashed 6-0 at home against Chelsea on Saturday. The defeat extended the Saints’ winless run to six in all competitions and they have lost five of these fixtures. At home, Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side hasn’t fared much better, losing their last four in a row. Also, Southampton has conceded 14 in their losing streak and St Mary’s, two more than they conceded in their previous 15.
Arsenal has struggled to recapture winning momentum since returning from the international break. Back to back losses at Crystal Palace (3-0) and Brighton at home (2-1) have dented the Gunners’ top-four hopes. Mikel Arteta’s side has now lost three of their last four in the Premier League and they remain three points off the top four. However, Arsenal will take confidence from their impressive Premier League away form as they have won five of their last six on the road.
Shane Long, Alex McCarthy and Lyanco are doubtful for the Saints, but Armondo Broja should be in contention. Takehiro Tomiyasu may return for Arsenal. Kieran Tierney (knee) and Thomas Partey (thigh) are ruled out.
Southampton are short on confidence, especially at home. Arsenal will sense an opportunity to get back on track at St Mary’s and an away win is likely.
Man United vs Norwich
Man United’s hopes of qualifying for Champions League football next season have taken a hit in recent weeks. The Red Devils are winless in four of their last five after a 1-0 loss at Everton last weekend. However, Ralf Rangnick’s side has picked up points at Old Trafford as they remain unbeaten in six on home soil. But United have only won three of these matches and drawn the other three.
Norwich earned a vital 1-0 home victory over Burnley last time out to give themselves a slim chance of avoiding relegation from the Premier League. The win followed a 0-0 draw at Brighton, but the Canaries remain rock bottom and seven points from safety. The Brighton draw ended a three-match losing streak away in the Premier League. However, Dean Smith’s side still has one of the worst away records in the division, taking just nine points from 15 matches on the road.
United could be boosted by Cristiano Ronaldo’s return. But the Red Devils will be without Luke Shaw (calf), Raphael Varane (knock), Scott McTominay (ankle), Fred (groin) and Edinson Cavani (calf). Joshua Sargent, Billy Gilmour and Przemyslaw Placheta may return to the Norwich squad. Adam Idah (knee), Andrew Omobamidele (back) and Ozan Kabak (thigh) remain sidelined.
Man United will be desperate to bounce back after a shock loss last weekend. They can take advantage of a Norwich side that has been poor away all season.
Newcastle vs Leicester
Newcastle ended their three-match losing run in the Premier League with a 1-0 home win against Wolves last Friday. The three points helped Eddie Howe’s side move ten points clear of the relegation zone. All three of Newcastle’s recent defeats came away from St James’ Park. In contrast, the Tyneside club have won their last four at home and they are unbeaten in their last six Premier League matches at St James’ Park.
Leicester’s inconsistent season has continued in recent weeks. The Foxes beat Crystal Palace 2-1 on Sunday to make it four unbeaten in all competitions. But, Brendan Rodgers’ side has only won twice in their last six. Away from in the Premier League has been an issue all season for Leicester. They have lost five of their last seven and won just three of their 14 games on the road this season.
Joe Willock remains doubtful for Newcastle. Callum Wilson (calf), Isaac Hayden (knee), Kieran Trippier (ankle), Ryan Fraser (thigh) and Jamal Lewis (groin) are all out. Jamie Vardy, Ryan Bertrand, Wilfred Ndidi and Danny Ward are unavailable for Leicester due to knee injuries.
Newcastle were back to top form against Wolves and they can make their home edge count against an out of form Leicester side.
