21-22 Premier League Preview Week 32
Just a handful of games are left in the 2021/22 Premier League season and it is set for a grandstand finish. Only one point separates Man City and Liverpool in the title race. This weekend, the top-flight giants face off at the Etihad in what could be a winner takes all clash. But there are plenty of other enticing fixtures elsewhere in the table.
Tottenham has overtaken their rivals Arsenal in the race for the Champions League places. Spurs head to out of form Aston Villa this weekend to try and cement the fourth spot. Man United are playing catch up to the top four after poor form. The Red Devils head to relegation-threatened Everton where both sides desperately need three points. Norwich and Burnley also face off in a must-win for the Canaries as they aim to make up ground on the teams above them. Overall, there could be drama across the board in this fully-packed Premier League game week.

Everton vs Man United
Everton’s relegation troubles deepened in mid-week after they threw away a 2-1 lead and lost 3-2 against relegation rivals Burnley. The defeat was the Toffees’ third in all competitions following losses at West Ham (2-1) and Crystal Palace in the FA Cup (4-0). Six defeats in their last seven Premier League matches leave Everton just one point above the bottom three. But they will be relieved to return to Goodison Park, where they have won two of their last four.
Man United lost more points in their hunt for the top four last weekend. The Red Devils drew 1-1 at home against Leicester and were only spared a defeat after VAR ruled out a late Leicester goal. United now have one win in their last six in all competitions and they have drawn three during this run. Ralf Rangnick’s side has also struggled away in the Premier League recently, drawing three of their last six on the road.
Everton duo Allan and Michael Keane return from suspension. Andros Townsend (knee), Tom Davies (thigh), Yerry Mina (thigh), Andre Gomes (knock), Donny van de Beek (thigh) and Nathan Patterson (ankle) are out.
Jesse Lingard, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luke Shaw should be in contention after recent knocks and illness. Edinson Cavani remains sidelined with a calf injury.
Everton will be relieved to return to home soil this weekend after a succession of away defeats. With Everton and United in poor form, a tight draw could take place as neither side will want to drop any more points.
Aston Villa vs Tottenham
Aston Villa fell to their third consecutive Premier League defeat last time out, losing 2-1 at Wolves. The Villans previously lost 1-0 at Arsenal and 2-1 at West Ham before the international break. The patchy form continues to hold Villa back from a later European push as they are winless in nine of their last 13 in the Premier League. At Villa Park, Steven Gerrard’s side has just one win in their last six and they have failed to score in two of their last three.
Tottenham has strengthened their push for a Champions League spot following three consecutive Premier League wins. Antonio Conte’s side thrashed Newcastle 5-1 on Sunday, a result which followed a 3-1 home win against West Ham and a 2-0 victory at Brighton. Five wins from their last six have helped Spurs move into the top four on goal difference. However, away form has not been convincing for the North London side. They have won three and lost three of their last six on the road.
Villa could be boosted by the returns of Danny Ings, Lucas Digne and Kortney Hause. Marvelous Nakamba is ruled out with a knock. For Spurs, Japhet Tanganga (knee), Ryan Sessegnon (thigh), Oliver Skipp (groin) and Sergio Reguilon (knee) are out.
Aston Villa are struggling and their home form has been patchy all season. Spurs have winning momentum and they can notch another win against Villa.
Norwich vs Burnley
Norwich ended their seven-match losing streak in all competitions with a 0-0 draw at Brighton last time out. However, there Canaries’ winless run extended to nine in all competitions following the stalemate. Dean Smith’s side has also failed to build momentum at Carrow Road, losing their last three at home. The recent form leaves Norwich bottom of the league and seven points from safety.
Burnley beat Everton on Wednesday to give themselves a fighting chance of Premier League survival. The Clarets trailed 2-1 at half time before battling back to win 3-2 at Turf Moor. The victory ended a four-match losing streak for Sean Dyce’s side. But the Lancashire club have been hard to beat on the road, drawing two and winning one of their last four away.
Brandon Williams and Max Aarons may return for Norwich this weekend. But Josh Sargent (ankle), Przemyslaw Placheta (ankle), Lukas Rupp (thigh), Adam Idah (knee), Andrew Omobamidele (back) and Ozan Kabak (thigh) are unavailable. Burnley trio Ben Mee, Erik Pieters and Johann Berg Gudmundsson are out.
Norwich will take confidence from their away point at Brighton and Burnley know how to keep things tight away. A cagey draw is likely with both sides unwilling to drop more points in the relegation dogfight.
Man City vs Liverpool
Man City extended their winning run to three in all competitions with a 1-0 Champions League home win against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday. City comfortably beat Burnley in the Premier League last time out, a result that maintained their one-point lead at the top of the table. It was the Citizen’s third league win in four and Pep Guardiola’s side has only dropped points in three of their last 20 Premier League matches.
Liverpool has won their last five matches in all competitions. The Reds beat Benfica 3-1 away in the Champions League in midweek, a result which followed a 2-0 home win against Watford in the Premier League. A run of ten consecutive wins has helped Jurgen Klopp’s side move to within one point of Man City at the top of the Premier League, four of which came away. The Reds have also conceded just one in their last eight league games.
Ruben Dias is City’s only absentee due to a thigh injury. Liverpool has no injuries or suspensions.
Man City and Liverpool will be determined to take all three points to wrestle advantage in the title race. Both sides have an eye for goal and a score draw is likely at the Etihad.
