21-22 Premier League Preview Week 11

West Ham vs Liverpool

It has been a week of shocks, twists, and turns in the Premier League. Tottenham sacked Nuno Espirito Santo and replaced the Portuguese with Antonio Conte following a 3-0 loss against Man United. Man City suffered a shock loss against Crystal Palace and Liverpool also dropped points with a draw against Brighton. Chelsea were able to take advantage against their rivals as they raced three points clear at the Premier League summit with a 3-0 win against Newcastle.

With the international break coming after the next round of fixtures, teams will want to finish positively before the two-week interval. But there are some challenging fixtures taking place as unconvincing Man United and City face-off in the Manchester derby on Saturday. Chelsea will be hoping to cement their place at the top of the table with a home fixture against Burnley, while Liverpool travel to in-form West Ham. At the bottom, Norwich and Newcastle remain winless and they have tough matches against Brentford and Brighton respectively.

Man United vs Man City

Man United could not build on their 3-0 win against Spurs at the weekend and were held to a 2-2 draw against Atalanta in the Champions League. Ronaldo was United’s saviour again, scoring a last-minute equaliser in Bergamo. Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s side remain in patchy form and they are winless in four of their last six. Home form is also a concern as the Red Devils have lost two of their last three at home and only scored one goal during this run.

Man City bounced back from a shock 2-0 home defeat with a comfortable 4-1 win against Club Brugge in the Champions League. The result ended a two-match winless streak for the Citizens following the loss to Palace and eliminate from the EFL Cup by West Ham. Pep Guardiola’s side have struggled away recently, winning just two of their last five in all competitions. But they are unbeaten in their last four Premier League matches on the road, winning three and drawing one.

Paul Pogba (suspended) is ruled out and Raphael Varane (hamstring) and Victor Lindelof (knock) are doubtful. City’s Fernan Torres (ankle) and Aymeric Laporte (suspended) are ruled out.

United have been poor defensively this season and they have relied heavily on Ronaldo to get them out of trouble in attack. City will want a response after their loss to Palace and the away side could edge their rivals.

Crystal Palace vs Wolves

Crystal Palace ended their run of four straight Premier League draws with a shock 2-0 win against Man City on Saturday. Wilfred Zaha and Conor Gallagher were on target as the Eagles dispatched ten-man City. The positive result has been coming for Patrick Veira’s side, who gave up leads to draw with Arsenal (2-2), Newcastle (1-1) and Brighton (1-1) in recent weeks. Palace are also unbeaten at home in their five home matches this season, but they have drawn four of these fixtures.

Wolves upturn in form continued with a deserved 2-1 win against Everton on Monday. Bruno Lage’s side led through two quick first half goals from Max Kilman and Raul Jimenez and they saw out the second period comfortably. With 13 points from their last five Premier League matches, Wolves are one of the most in-form sides in the league. Only Arsenal (14) and Chelsea (15) have picked up more points than Wolves in the Premier League in the last five matches

Eberechi Eze is unlikely to feature for Palace due to lack of match fitness and Nathan Ferguson remains sidelined with a calf injury. Wolves will be without Fernando Marcal (calf), Jonny Otto (knee), Pedro Neto (knee), Yerson Mosquera (thigh)and Hugo Bueno (hamstring).

Both sides come into this fixture with confidence after impressive runs of form. Neither side will want to end their unbeaten runs and a draw is likely.

Everton vs Tottenham

Everton have lost their last three matches following a 2-1 defeat at Wolves on Monday. The Toffees are winless in six of their last seven in all competitions and they have lost four of their last six in the Premier League. Rafa Benitez’s side began the season with a three-match winning run at Goodison Park. But consecutive losses to West Ham (1-0) and Watford (5-2) have tarnished the Toffees home form.

Tottenham lost their fifth Premier League match in seven with a disappointing 3-0 home loss against Man United. Spurs failed to register a shot on target and were punished by conceding goals either side of half time. The result followed a 1-0 away loss against London rivals West Ham. The North London side have been poor away in the Premier League, losing three of their five matches on the road. They have also failed to keep a clean sheet in their last seven.

Yerry Mina (ankle), Dominic Calvert-Lewin (hamstring), and Abdoulaye Doucoure (hamstring) are out for Everton. Spurs duo Bryan Gil (thigh) and Ryan Sessegnon (fitness) are sidelined.

Everton are struggling and they face a Tottenham side who will be hoping to impress new boss Antonio Conte. A narrow away win could be likely on Sunday.

Everton – 2/1

Tottenham – 29/20

West Ham vs Liverpool

West Ham’s impressive run of form continued with a comfortable 4-1 win away against ten-man Aston Villa last time out. It was the Hammer’s third successive win in the Premier League, form which has taken them into the top four places in recent weeks. Despite the upturn in form, West Ham remain patchy at home. A 1-0 win against Spurs at the London Stadium last time out ended a three-match winless run. The two top-flight losses for David Moyes’ side have come at home this season.

Liverpool responded to their 2-2 draw with Brighton in the Premier League last weekend with a comprehensive 2-0 home win against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. The victory extended the Reds unbeaten run to 16 matches in all competitions this season, including five wins in their last six. Away form has been a strength for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season. They have won eight of their nine away games and won their last five in a row.

West Ham have no injuries or suspensions. Liverpool will be without James Milner (hamstring), Harvey Elliott (leg), and Naby Keita (hamstring). Joe Gomez, Curtis Jones, and Roberto Firmino are also doubtful.

West Ham are in good form and look tough to beat this season. Liverpool’s strong start to the season has tailed off slightly in the Premier League and this could turn into a tight draw on Sunday.
